Embed our charts and tables

By James Burfield, SEO consultant, Bath · Page updated

Every population chart, map and league table on this site can be embedded on your own site, free, including commercially. There is no key to request and no form to fill in.

The terms, in full

  1. Keep the source link. The embed code includes a line reading "Source: Population Statistics" with a link. Leave it there. That link is the whole price.
  2. Don't misrepresent the figures. Each embed states its source and vintage. Don't crop that off or relabel a 2005 figure as current.
  3. That's it. No traffic limit, no attribution logo, no commercial restriction.

What you can embed

The embed code is on each page, under "Embed this on your site".

Why we do it this way

The underlying figures come from ONS, NRS, NISRA, the Food Standards Agency and GeoNames, published under the Open Government Licence and CC BY. Those licences allow reuse with attribution, and we can't add restrictions on top of them even if we wanted to. Facts about how many people live somewhere aren't ours to own.

What we've done is compile, check and present them. The link is how that gets credited. It's the same bargain the World Gazetteer struck when it published at this domain twenty years ago, and it earned that project citations across Wikipedia in a dozen languages.

Using the data directly

If you want the numbers rather than the picture, the 2005 World Gazetteer dataset is a free CSV download, and more current downloads are coming. Attribution appreciated on the same terms.
